      Zinnia is the generic and common name for about 17 species of flowering plants in the daisy family, Compositae. Native to North, Central, and South America, they are grown extensively as annuals. The most popular garden forms are hybrids of Zinnia elegans. Zinnias flower outdoors during summer and autumn. Modern varieties are plain and variegated.
