      Sternbergia is a genus of about 5 species of bulbous herbs in the amaryllis family, Amaryllidaceae, and native to Eurasia. The winter daffodil, or lily-of-the-field, S. lutea, mentioned in the Bible, produces waxen, golden yellow flowers in autumn and grows in dry rocky areas.
