Purslane, Portulaca oleracea, or pusley, is a member of the purslane family, Portulacaceae, and is a common weed in gardens and cultivated fields. It is a creeping annual, with thick, succulent, reddish stems, fleshy, oblong leaves, and tiny, stalkless, yellow flowers often surrounded by a rosette of leaves. The flowers open only in the morning on warm, sunny days. Purslane seeds are tiny, black, and numerous and are produced in small, lidded capsules. The whole plant is edible when young.
