PETUNIA

PETUNIA

Petunia is a genus of annual or perennial flowering plants that number about 30 species in the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The showy, fragrant petunia blooms come single or double, ruffled or fluted, with a wider variety of colors available than almost any other flower can offer. P. hybrida (common garden petunia) has many varieties and strains; a compact dwarf strain exists that is well suited for rock gardens. P. axillaris is a spreading or erect perennial that grows up to 60 cm (2 ft) tall, with cylindrical tube and white flowers. P. violacea has purplish flowers resembling violets.
