Fuchsias, genus Fuchsia, are small shrubs or trees belonging to the evening-primrose family, Onagraceae. They are native to New Zealand, Tahiti, and regions in Central and South America. The sizes of various species range from 46 cm (18 in) to more than 600 cm (20 ft) in height. Many species have hanging flowers that are brilliant red, purple, or pink in color. Hardy fuchsia, F. magellanica, and honeysuckle fuchsia, F. triphylla, are two well-known ornamentals, and their hybrids are often grown in hanging baskets and even, in warm climates, planted as hedges.
