FORSYTHIA

FORSYTHIA

Forsythia, genus Forsythia, is any of several species of hardy, deciduous shrubs belonging to the olive family, Oleaceae. Forsythias are among the showiest of spring-flowering shrubs, producing brilliant yellow flowers in early spring before the leaves unfold. They are very adaptable plants and can grow in a variety of soils. The principal species are F. suspensa, which reaches heights of 2.4 m (8 ft) or more; F. intermedia, which has several varieties, including spectabilis, showy-border forsythia; F. viridissima, with bright-green stems; and F. ovata, a Korean species that is the hardiest and earliest to bloom.
