BUGBANE

BUGBANE

Bugbane, Cimicifuga americana, is an herb in the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. The plants are tall, white, ill-smelling perennials found in damp woods in the Northern Hemisphere. Both the scientific and the common name refer to the insect-repelling properties of bugbane. The genus name, Cimicifuga, is a combination of the Latin words cimex ("bug") and fugere ("to repel").
